Overall this is a really solid piece! the colors fit well and the shading is gorgeous! The few things that need work would be the the hands and feet. The hands are quite small, its hard to see them properly, but the fingers seem to be fine. The toes could definitely use some work, they are pointed too far down, it makes them look broken. Also the legs could use a bit of shaping up, they look a bit uneven. other than that this is a really great work of art!
Yeah, anatomy is something that I hope to improve on, especially with hands and feet. They always seem to be a bit of a struggle for me haha. But thank you so much for your suggestions and the comment! Much appreciated!
Very cool piece! Did you hand draw all of the roses? If so HOLY CRAP! That's amazing! The shading on the hair, clothing and sword are all very well done, especially the metallic texture of the blade. The only things to work on is the anatomical proportions. Someone once told me, "your hand is approximately the size of your face" which I didn't know at the time and thought he was a genius! Though despite being small the hands look very nice, which make me wonder if it in intentional? Her legs are off, The left is thinner than the right is the only blatant error that stick out to me in this drawing. Great work, great shading, most of all
ahh well I drew a few roses and copied and pasted them to fill up the rest of the page. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to drawing lots of one particular thing.
Hmm, I'll take the hand thing into consideration. I do need to work on drawing hands. As a kid, I always thought it was something that other kids told so they could trick each other into slapping themselves on the face, but it must have some basis to it! And I agree that the legs need work too.
lovely girl, nice composition. I like the contrast of the dark warm background and the "cool" white foreground. The one thing I don't get is the sword in relation with the lines coming out of the roses to her feet. I like how they look, I just don't get what they mean as they look a bit random compared to the rest of the piece.
Oh, yeah I do see what you mean here. The sword and legs and background don't seem to really interact with each other... I'll definitely try working on that. Thanks for your suggestion. And I'm super happy that you found the composition and character nice!
I'm having a bit of a hard time figuring out if she's floating, upright, or lying down; if the latter, which the ankle ropes seem to suggest, I'd suggest splaying out her hair and dress a bit more, flattening the folds of the skirt in particular and showing the depression from the sword (If she's not meant to be lying on her back, disregard the previous, but the shape of the image, roses, and such suggest a bed to me). It would also help to have a few harder lines or highlights on the edge of the hair, something to separate it from the background a bit. The colors are lovely, don't get me wrong, it just gets a little lost up there.
All that said, I love the serenity of the piece. The hair in particular is gorgeous and I get the feeling there's a lot of story behind this one. And despite getting a little confused by it, I really do like the simplicity of the background. It has a very refined feeling to it and sells the piece very nicely.
